Bogotá, September 2024. The ColombiaPlast fair has established itself as a key event for the digital and sustainable transformation of the plastics sector in Colombia, highlighting its role in boosting the national economy. The event, which will run until September 27, seeks to strengthen the competitiveness of the sector by incorporating Industry 4.0 technologies, such as automation, robotics, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, 3D printing and real-time data analysis.
In a context in which Colombia ranks 79th in the adoption of 4.0 technologies globally, the event becomes an essential platform for the sector to advance towards a true digital transformation. ColombiaPlast, organized by Acoplásticos, Messe Düsseldorf North America and Corferias, focuses this year on making visible the technologies that drive the transition towards more sustainable and efficient practices.
According to projections by Confecámaras, the adoption of 4.0 technologies in the sector is expected to grow by 89% in the next seven years.
Daniel Mitchell, president of Acoplásticos and organizing partner of the fair, commented that “this fair represents a unique opportunity for the development of the sector, offering access to new technologies, tools and trends with a vision of sustainability and circular economy, led by experts.”
Automation, collaborative robotics, IoT and other innovations are fundamental pillars to improve processes and reduce environmental impact in the industry. In this sense, automation is expected to grow by 41.4% by 2024, promoting a greener approach. Furthermore, in line with Law 2232 of 2022, the circular economy and advanced recycling are gaining relevance, optimizing the reincorporation of plastic waste into the production chain, the use of bio-based raw materials, more efficient machinery, among other factors.
Another relevant point is the investment in small and medium-sized companies, which face challenges regarding the high costs of training and technology. For this reason, the creation of free training programs that encourage entrepreneurs to adopt these new technological practices is proposed.
With this commitment to sustainability and digital transformation, it is projected that by 2025 most companies in the sector will have adopted automation and digitalization, trends that have grown by 8% in the last seven years, allowing the country to align itself with international standards and improve its competitiveness in the global market.
